Boy George & Culture Club toured the US in 2015 and this is their original country flavored version of Truth Is A Runaway Train, that later was arranged differently for a more soul feel when the album officially came out.

- This Karen Dalton cover of a song from a 1971 album was a favorite of Gary's Floyd's, and he performed and recorded it with the Buddha Brothers combo. It was a poignant part of their live sets in San Francisco venues they regularly appeared at in the late 2010's such as the Lost Church, Eagle Tavern and Make Out Room. There is a multi-cam video version seen here shot in a rehearsal studio https://youtu.be/yXO0a3Aa_GY. Greg Dale, who was a long time fan of Gary's since the late 80's, eventually became a member of his band in the mid 2010's before he moved to Ohio, and came back through San Francisco to play the celebration of life ceremony at herchurch on June 1st 2024. - Ryan O'Neal was a classic bad dad with a terrible temper, his relationships were often ruined by his ego maniacal mood swings, substance abuse and indiscriminate infidelities. In other words he was a Hollywood legend. The son of actress Patricia Callaghan and writer Charles O’Neal, Ryan O'Neal started boxing as a young man and began his acting career as a stuntman on TV’s Tales of the Vikings before landing various bit parts on shows like Dobie Gillis, Bachelor Father, and My Three Sons. For five years he played the bratty scion Rodney Harrington on the primetime 60's TV soap opera Peyton Place. The popular show, chronicled the gossipy goings-on in a fictional New England town, whose torrid affairs and libidinous storylines paled in comparison to O’Neal’s offscreen romantic life. Divorced from actress Joanna Moore, the mother of his children Tatum (who would go on to become the youngest person ever to win an Academy Award) and Griffin, O’Neal went on to woo and marry his Peyton Place costar Leigh Taylor-Young. Even before starring in 1970's Love Story, which propelled him to marquee status, O’Neal had already cut a wide sexual swath through Hollywood with the likes of Ursula Andress, Barbara Parkins (another Peyton Place alumnus), Anouk Aimée, and British sexpot Joan Collins. By the early seventies he was seen as a Playboy Mansion regular, and would later number among his conquests Diana Ross, Bianca Jagger, Diana Ross, Melanie Griffith, Barbra Streisand, Peggy Lipton of TV's Mod Squad, as well as the lengthy relationship with all time best-selling pin-up poster model Farrah Fawcett, the mother of his son Redmond. One apparent reason for his success with women, explained his first wife Moore, was that Ryan was simply “an incredible lover, totally devoted to giving a woman pleasure.” In 2012 he revealed he was battling prostate cancer, and he has died now at age 82 in December 2023.
- 1:01 / 2:49 Shane MacGowan (1957-2023) A Man You Don't Meet Every Day Tribute Video In Memorium To #Pogues #Popes vocalist #ShaneMacGowan Shane MacGowan, was "a man you don't meet everyday". For better or worse he had an outsize influence on my life, and after hearing their debut recordings on the Stiff Records label inspired several of my high school era friends to start our own celtic punk group in the latter 1980s. On our 3rd gig we were invited to open for the extremely influential band he fronted and I swigged a lil' tequila with Shane & Joe Strummer backstage before the show, they of course swigged a lot more ... the punk poets of yore. For past two decades it was amazing to me that the fragile freak o' habit known as Shane was still alive, while the seemingly invincible Joe Strummer was dead... I hope now those two blokes can rekindle that friendship... Shane was as brilliant and bold a bastard as he was tragic and sad, he made ya laugh and cry, you could either laugh with him or at 'em, and whatever you thought you knew, we can only agree there will definitely never be another - Sláinte!!! Sharing a bill with their band at The Fillmore back in 1987, it twas indeed a thrill, and musically they were phenomenal, and alcoholically, they were equally acccomplished. I was especially wowed when discovering that they had large roadcases with drawers filled with ice and libations to be utilized by their own onstage bartender... MacGowan was already technically under doctor's orders not to drink any hard liquor, so his solution was to consume several, and by several I mean many more than a few, full bottles of 18% buy volume port wine onstage instead. Along with multiple bottles of gin & brandy and shandy in their tour rider , The Pogues would request 48 large, clean towels. ( I believe the 4 dozen towels were to clean up all the gob & puke...) The band had a good time, and a good run, made some epic timeless music, and in any town, full of Irish ex-pats, or wannabe paddys, were always heartily embraced. Most of their regional shows in Northern California were held to foot stompin' delight at The Fillmore, including their return in 1988 and several solo MacGowan shows when he was estranged from his former bandmates, and oft barely coherent onstage, gripping a mic stand for dear life to keep him upright... for decades after their debut albums he had really slipped into a cartoonishly grotesque caricature of himself. By 1989 Shane failed to show up for a gig at Berkeley's Greek Theater with one of his writer idols Bob Dylan and the band began soldiering on without him . It was truly sad by the early 90's when an ecstasy & dope addled Shane left the Pogues...or was kicked out or whatever the hell happened... and sadder still they had to atempt to relive past glories, after a decade of lost time, and reunite for cas$hflow in the early 2000's... I last saw the #Pogues in 2009, Shane only half intelligible, making attempts to drunkenly pronounce the title of his not so poetic final early era Pogues single "Yeah Yeah Yeah"... He once said his inspiration and goal in life was to "Cram as much pleasure into life, and rail against the pain you have to suffer" - #ShaneMacGowan R.I.P.

- Spot 1019 - Milkbomb! 3 years agoThe late great odd ball Joe Sloan composed immersively poignant and impressively pungent poetry for his band Spot 1019. This track was featured on their 1986 debut LP that was first issued by Pitch-A-Tent records, and later after the Rough Trade bankruptcy in 1990, was reissued by Frontier. Shortly after attending Joe's memorial, I was inspired to assemble this 1:1 ratio home made ( actually bus made ) fan video for Milkbomb! The song Milkbomb! WAS recorded in Tempe Arizona back when Ronald Reagan was President and mixed at Different Fur studios on 19th St at Valencia in da Mission back when Feinstein was mayor. - Derv Gordon of The Equals - Michael and The Slipper Tree (with So What at Burger Boogaloo) 6 years agoMichael had a slipper tree and nothing more to bear Than a pair of silver slippers every year The King and Queen started for a visit to see Michael and the slipper tree, slipper tree, slipper tree Brand new shoes for you and me
- https://lilmike.me/dwarves-and-a-3-stripper-crash-the-stage-pileup-make-burger-boogaloo-the-place-to-be-in-vogue-oakland/ It was lil’ bit smutty, a lil’ bit rock ‘n roll as the old school Dwarves lineup of Blag Dahlia, HeWhoCannotbeNamed and bassist Salt Peter Strauss were onstage along with Rex Everything and spry lad Hunter Down on the drum kit. As host John Waters says of the Burger Boogaloo , “Burger Boogaloo is the perfect cult gathering of young and old music rebels who hate everybody in the world except each other.” Here’s a 360° video perspective the Dwarves closing down their set with “Unrepentant”, the lead off track from their 1997 album “Dwarves are Young & Good Looking” which was their first release after getting booted by Sub Pop for pranking the death of one of their own band members in a PR seeking stunt meant to ride the 90’s post Kurt Cobain suicide sympathy wave. The song is all chunk rifs and bluesy wails, dark humor augmented by some anti-crowd control antics as the end their appearance at Burger Boogaloo July 6th in Oakland’s Mosswood Park. They are joined by some feral female friends like Burlesque beauties Szandora LaVey and Bo Vixxen. I brought a new 360° camera to capture some of the action stage side at Day 1 of the Burger Boogaloo but as soon as I took it out, the frantic pit action and stage diving of big boy Blag Dahlia soon knocked the lil dual lensed guy off its gimbel mount and into the mud, so I apologize for the smeared lens on some of this footage. Thankfully of my co-camera operator Eric Moffat noticed it flying and snagged it from the mud, I later saved his camera as it was knocked around onto the ground minutes later during the stage diving and crowd surfing caught at the end of this number.

According to promoters this film was the only one in their 18 year history of 3000 films that SF Indie Fest sold out all seats of two screenings within 24 hours of tickets going onsale.

- Hub City Stompers perform a ska song from their Altercation Records release 'HATERS DOZEN' about a crazy bald head romance gone bad, live in action at Make-Out Room in San Francisco. Hub City Stompers released their first full length CD, "Blood Sweat and Beers" in May 2004 on Megalith Records.bringing a renewed spark into the wasteland of the seemingly "dead" and burnt out Third Wave ska scene. Hailing from New Brunswick New Jersey the band bring their brand of Dirty Jersey Ska to wherever they can and have over 6 full length CDs to their name. Group founder Travis Nelson aka frontman Rev Sinister says of this song, that he wrote : “The quintessential sequel to the Jenny Whiskey hit ‘Skinhead Boi’. ‘Skinhead Boi’ covered the struggles during the subject’s relationship with a skinhead. ‘Hard Place To Be’ covers the end of it all, as the skinhead walks away from what’s most likely the best and most redeeming aspect of his life so he can continue his path of irresponsibility and destruction in place of growing into true manhood. I’d been writing that one for a while, very specifically for Jenny to sing, obviously. And the lyrics are kinda wordy so I was worried about her memorizing it and articulating it. She of course banged it out and had it down in like a week or two.” For more info on Hub City Stompers check out their page here https://hubcitystompers.bandcamp.com if you dig my youtube channel please consider dropping a buck in the donation hat to help keep it alive & kicking! http://paypal.me/lilmikesf

- Caroleen Beatty & Doug Hilsinger's Enorchestra - Golden Hours (live Multi-Cam @MakeOutRoomSF) 6 years agoThis song from Brian Eno's Another Green World was reinterpreted musically live at The Make-Out Room in San Francisco 4 /6 / 2019, Doug & Caroleen are backed by Bruce Ducheneaux on drums, Dusty Jermier on bass, Steve Perrone & Sunny Haire on additional guitars. Doug, Caroleen, Sunny, Steve, Bruce and Dustin dusted off their unique guitar centric take on the 70's era Brian Eno classics live at The Make-Out Room for a sold out Enorchestra + Mayya & the Revolutionary Hell Yeah! concert held Saturday April 6th 2019. This is but one of their many Enorchestra takes Brian Eno's rock classics. in 2004, Doug Hilsinger and Caroleen Beatty lovingly made a homemade cover version of Brian Eno's second solo album, "Taking Tiger Mountain (by strategy)", a wonderful record originally released in 1974 on the EG label. Brian Eno happened to hear the new versions of his old songs and was joyous, proclaiming "I like it very, VERY much!". And so it was released on cd by DBK Works label, with Brian Eno writing the liner notes. Two years later DBK went out of business and the cd is now out of print. if you want a CD with all the artwork, get in touch with Doug Hilsinger thru http://www.saucefaucet.com
- Here's some previously unseen footage I shot of foot stompin' stadium ready rockers Giuda, in an attempt to capture the goonish cartoonish energy of these sexy swarthy saviours of the lost sounds of the 70's, who've revamped the past into a catchy 21st century glam punk hybrid. Enjoy! The band have just released a new album this week called E.V.A on BURGER RECORDS in the US and coincidentally I just found some 2 year old live footage of the band in action that I shot here in SF that I feel must be shared! The main two members of Giuda are the songwriters Lorenzo (guitarist) and Tenda (lead vocalist) who have known each other since they were toddlers and were also in a band called Taxi for ten years in Roma before Giuda started and put out their first album in 2010. That debut album "Racy Roller" was described as “Cock Sparrer twinned with the Equals” and features the studio version of this song in the video I just cobbled together. Giuda music is available on as purchasable actual vinyl artifacts or streamable through all evil innernetted outlets in the universe. I first caught a glimpse of Giuda by chance in a packed Parkside circa summer 2016, when I was there to catch the Briefs. I was ill equipped for the frenzy, late to hit the thick sweaty pit and get their act down for posterity. When they came back to the Bottom of the Hill in fall of 2017, I made sure to spread a few cameras around, and try to trap a little of the glory. Unfortunately batteries started fading during opening sets by Buster Shuffle and So What and then Giuda's road manager ixnayed me placing a camera up on the stage where I could get a better view... By the time the mighty power pop professionals of Giuda came downstairs and popped onto the stage to deliver their 70's style schtick like the equivalent of a Sardinian Slade tribute or an Sweet & Cheap Trick influenced Italian suedehed band, I was down in front clutching an iPhone 6, a bootleg $40 Go Pro knock-off and a lo-rez outdated Zoom Q3 I had found in the garbage a year earlier. (All 3 devices are since either fried, dead and buried or lost). Pinched by the front of the stage, between a floor wedge, whilst getting elbowed by a still photographer with a big pro looking lens while constantly getting banged into by moonstompers from behind I did my best. I made a go of capturing some shaky video while trying to avoid concrete poles and flying drinks, and hopefully getting some not altogether too overloaded and muffled audio. It took about 8 hours to edit and render this puppy, much of it spent on trying to EQ and balance the audio so you could hear a semblance of vocals over the boomin' bass amp I was right in front of. lemme know what you think in the comments!
- Proudflesh - Hollywood (members of Mordred & Crucifix live Thin Lizzy tribute Multi-Cam ) 6 years agoScott Holderby of Mordred/High Nobles join founding Crucifix members Sothira & Jimmy for a Thin Lizzy encore during Jimmy's 60th Birthday celebration at Bender's Bar & Grill in San Francisco March 23rd 2019 For more background info on my videos and a deep dive visit http://lilmike.me
- Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy managed to pull of some 17 shows at San Francisco venue The Chapel in March 2019. - On the new single, the band comments, ""Monsoon Rock" is just a song to rage to and celebrating good gigs/live music, we wrote it around the time of Gizzfest 2017 when it was pissing down with rain but everybody still got into it, just muddier and wetter and real feral. We ran out of time to make a video and it’s always fun making funny shit, if you don’t have a sense of humour and can’t laugh what’s the point of being alive?" The single Monsoon Rock i available through ATO Records in the US, Rough Trade in the EU and Flightless Records in their home of Australia. It's a Thursday morning, I am sleeping in my home town I can see, I can see the sky from the clouds The rain was falling down and we're all begging it to stop Instead we're gonna do the monsoon rock I looked to the gutter, I looked to the drain Everywhere I looked, it was all the same We can't control the weather, the ground was getting wetter Something came over him, and they were doing it It was the monsoon rock, alright! [Chorus] The monsoon rock The monsoon rock You just try it, it's no fuss The monsoon rock The monsoon rock You try to stop us Their hair turned to weapons, they were playing all the hits People came from everywhere, they dared to look like this I'm not gonna lie, I ain't gonna sugarcoat it The monsoon rock was happening, and it was fucking lit [Chorus] The monsoon rock The monsoon rock You just try it, it's no fuss The monsoon rock The monsoon rock You try to stop us Amyl and the Sniffers, AussieIndie, #AussiePunk, #Flightless, #PubRock, #HardcorePunk

Several years, I've wasted reminiscing over Those days I wasn't afraid, but I keep talking or not And I'm left with nothing to say Walking our thoughts and our plan with a car You say what say, but I know what you did You're memory's crazy You're thinking of this But I'm comfortable standing, it makes me feel alive Right? You're several lies, Put a bright light in the night Gotta lay Are you not the tight type? Several years I've wasted, Reminiscing over those days I wasn't afraid, But I keep talking or not And I'm left with nothing to say You can say what you want, but the passion is gone You can say what you want, but the magic is lost You will be wise to be cautious or not But noooo it's not that easy...
