Teenage Bottlerocket “Stay Rad!” Record Release Party – Little Kid (acoustic version)

Teenage Bottlerocket “Stay Rad!” Record Release Party live acoustic set at Fat Wreck Chords HQ in San Francisco

Ray Rocket , in from Wyoming, and on his way to Disneyland with his son, stops by Fat Wreck Chords HQ to sing” Little Kid”. The occasion as to celebrate the release of the new Teenage Bottlerocket album Stay Rad! . This album marks the return of the band to the label after a brief hiatus, and is the band’s eighth full length LP in all. “Stay Rad!” also is the first new album since of original material since the sadly sobering drug related death of drummer Brandon, Ray’s twin brother, back in 2015.

Teenage Bottlerocket are no longer teenagers, and in fact are proudly punk rock “dad rock”. Stay Rad! closes out with the track featured here “Little Kid.” A somewhat somber song, that explores the minefields of memory, reflective no doubt on the loss of Ray’s brother and the changes that fatherhood has brought. When Ray Rocket achingly yodels “I can’t figure out how to be a little kid again,” it’s impossible not to feel tinges of his grief, if not some sadness of our own childhood’s being gone for good as well.

Peter Murphy – Jean Genie Bowie Tribute

In the midst a long awaited and sold out 17 shows in a row stand at The Chapel in San Francisco in March of 2017, former Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy added a special David Bowie Tribute night to the slate of performances.

His voice was a bit of ragged glory all night, as he could barely speak, yet managed to soar through the choruses of the Bowie back catalog. After this song he introduces the touring band featuring drummer Marc Slutsky, guitarist Mark Gemini Thwaite, and multi instrumentalists Casey McAllister and Emilio Zef China who’d just tackled the classic 70’s glam rock album cut Jean Genie.

Chuck Prophet – The Hurting Business (Live 2000)

Chuck Prophet and the Mission Express shot live at The Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco during the recording of their Cooking Vinyl Live Album “Turn The Pigeons Loose”

Dedicated to Iron Mike Tyson, this is the title track of Chuck’s 1999 album, The Hurting Business. This is footage I shot live in August 4th 2000 in San Francisco at The Bottom Of The Hill during the making of the live album “Turn The Pigeons Loose”.

This is my unofficial raw non EQ’d camera mic room recording heard maxing out on the audio channel occasionally. A properly mixed & mastered version of this song recording appears on the Chuck Prophet & The Mission Express official live album “Turn The Pigeons Loose”.

Spike Slawson – Kissin’ Cousins (Elvis Tribute Tune)

An incest inspired chart topping fave from the 1964 film of the same name, Spike Slawson ( of Uke Hunt / Me First & The Gimme Gimmes) performs Kissin’ Cousins originally made famous by Elvis Presley.

Recorded at The Make-Out Room in San Francisco Aug 25th 2016 at an event organized by Eric Moffat paying tribute to the songs of both Elvis Presley and Elvis Costello and their many musical influences. A solo ukelele performance of an Elvis Presley classic at the tail end of The Almost Blue Revue Look for more videos from Elvis vs Elvis – Tribute to Two Legends! Texas Terri and The Stiff Ones (CW Saloon Fall 2000)

Texas Terri Blistering 20 minutes of a circa 2000, Stiff Ones’ show, including a toxic tear down of Iggy & the Stooges’ “Shake Appeal” seen towards the beginning of the set. This classic Texas Terri & The Stiff Ones lineup was only together for a brief time, but fortunately I snagged some digital video of their heyday at the ye olde Covered Wagon Saloon. Unfortunately my up close & personal raw & rawkin” footage means some maxed out, way overloaded camera mic audio that’s in the red as well.

Hard to believe this gig was nearly 20 years ago, and sadly despite thorough searching online I can find no evidence of the exact date that this show went down. All I know is from the side banter captured on tape that it was definitely a Thursday Night, some ramshackle production at the Covered Wagon Saloon in San Francisco. The band was apparently opening for Jeff Dahl and evidentiary flyers seen on the wall of the club indicate it was possibly late September or early October 2000.
