Buffy Sainte-Marie, introduced many Americans to the plight of the American Indian with the song, “Now that the Buffalo’s Gone”. Ever since her folk songs found an audience, Buffy Sainte-Marie has been fighting for a Indian recognition and jurisdiction over their own reservations. Buffy’s career as a performer became intertwined with the battle of indigenous people even as a regular on the TV show “Sesame Street” where she teaches children about Indian customs and language, including her native Cree.
